My name is Mr. Jordan Canterbury. I grew up here in Caldwell County, just a hop-skip-and-a-jump from SCHS! I graduated from Appalachian State University in May of 2017 with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics, Secondary Education. It's actually a funny story how I ended up as a math teacher...
I originally applied to AppState to be an English teacher. At that time I hoped I would never have to take another math class ever again. For a really long time, I hated math. Math just did not make sense to me. In my last semester of high school, I signed up for a calculus class at CCC&TI just so that I could have a class with my friends. I figured I would just drop the class if it got too hard. Instead, somehow the material made a bit of sense to me. Through a number of divine interventions, I switched my major at App to math, and I've never looked back.
I tell this story because I know what it feels like to be in a math class and to have no idea what is going on. I can definitely emphasize with those of you who hate math. My goal is to make you hate math just a little less. :)
To succeed in my class, all I ask is that you keep trying, even when the material seems ridiculous.
Never give up!
